Overview
This 6-day seminar is intended for child therapists who want to incorporate and/or further develop the use of expressive therapies in their play therapy practice. We will explore the inclusion of a wide variety of expressive therapies in a play therapy session and consider both the use of expressive therapies as a way of releasing, transforming, and integrating difficult experiences and expressive therapies that are ego-strengthening, nurturing and grounding.
Learning Objectives and Content:
|
|
 |
|
• Theoretical principles of Holistic Expressive Play Therapy as related to the use of expressive therapies in a play session.
• The expressive therapies considered include:
|
• art therapy
• sand play therapy
• the use of the dollhouse
• puppets
• masks
• face painting
• music
• storytelling
• body-centered activities
• sewing and felting
• candle making
• Nature in psychotherapy (nature table,
garden, outings)
• animal-assisted play therapy
|
 |
|
• For each expressive therapy:
• Discuss the materials needed.
• Consider the unique contribution each has to offer to the play therapy process.
• How and when they are used both in spontaneous play and during structured interventions.

deal with their issues (illustrated by slides).

|
In the afternoon, participants will be given the opportunity to experience the use of the various expressive therapies as related to lecture material from the morning.
